Rescue Dogs in Demand: At What Cost?

rescue dog transportYesterday’s NPR story about rescue dogs, importation and movement across state lines got us thinking about the potential benefits and downfalls to this relatively new level of shelter collaboration.

Our employees have had several personal experiences with animals from out of state coming to Vermont for adoption. Anecdotally, the process is well defined and smooth.

But there are growing concerns about which types of organizations import and transport dogs, about the value of local rescue animals, and about diseases and how they travel.
