Pet-Safe Recipes: 4 Favorite Homemade Fall Treats For Cats and Dogs

Written by VetriScience | September 12, 2014

With fall coming up in Vermont (fine, it’s already here), we’re seeing a lot of pumpkin, peanut butter and cinnamon treats on store shelves.

Most of them, though, are pretty human-oriented, and not so healthy for our canine or kitten companions. But we like including our pets in our holiday plans. So we’ve compiled a list of our favorite homemade dog and cat treats for autumn. Dig in!

1. Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Cookies

The pumpkin in these cookies will add healthy fiber, and peanut butter provides healthy fats and vitamins B and E. Toss in a bit of cinnamon to support cleaning of the teeth and you’ve got a perfect puppy treat.

2. Peanut Butter and Applesauce Cat Treats

The Misfit Baker came up with a beautiful recipe for her peanut-butter loving cat. Not all cats like the creamy human food, so ask yours his opinion before baking a whole batch. Your cat will get added benefits with protein-rich quinoa flour.

3. Turkey Treats for Dogs

For Thanksgiving (or any time of year, really), nothing beats hearty turkey and cheese – especially for a pup’s taste buds. In these treats, Brewer’s yeast and parsley offer added benefits, like fresher breath.

4. Pumpkin Pie Cookies

We looked to the ASPCA for the recipe for these incredible Thanksgiving cookies that both cats and dogs will enjoy. With oatmeal, carrots and fiber-rich pumpkin, you really can’t go wrong.
