The 3rd Annual Chase Away 5K, started by the Chase Away K9 Foundation, is just a month away! For the third year in a row, Vetri-Science® of Vermont will sponsor this fundraising event, which will take place on Sunday, October 13th. A few of my coworkers and I are even planning on running in the event. If you want your dog’s name on your shirt, it’s not too late to register online.
Chase Away K9 Cancer—a division of the National Canine Cancer Foundation—was founded in 2006 by Cera Reusser, who started this grassroots organization to help fund canine cancer studies and canine cancer awareness efforts. After her black lab, Chase, died of this disease in the summer of 2006, Reusser wanted to help battle cancer and dogs by raising money.
According to the website, part of her efforts have been to “build a community where people can find comfort and understanding; where no one will say ‘it’s just a dog; and where we can honor the efforts of our volunteers and the dogs that they love.”
These efforts have raised over $740,030.68 and helped fund 18 studies since she founded Chase Away K9 Cancer seven years ago. While a lot of the fundraising comes from the 5K, much of her support comes one dollar at a time. That means every donation makes a difference, including the registration fee for the race and from companies who sponsor the race.
Reusser says, “Our ultimate goal is to see the day where no one will lose a beloved best friend to cancer.”
At Vetri-Science®, we share Reusser’s mission is to help pets live healthier lives, and we are proud to sponsor the 3rd Annual Chase Away 5K.
You can also register the day of the race. For more information, go to the Chase Away K9 Cancer website. We will also keep you posted on Facebook.
